"When the moon rose and the apparition of Amber came faintly into the heavens, stars showing through it, pale halo about its towers, tiny flecks of movement upon its walls, I waited ... waited on the highest crop of Kolvir, there where the three steps are fashioned, roughly, out of the stone...
When the moonlight touched them, the outline of the entire stairway began to take shape, spanning the great gulf to the point above the sea the vision city held. When the moonlight fell full upon it, the stair had taken as much of substance as it would ever possess, and I set my foot on the stone.
...If I looked too hard at any portion of the stair, it lost its shimmering opacity and I saw the ocean far below as through a translucent lens...
This is my entry for
Bring Literature to Life Contest.
Edit: got second place
Hope the print is coming soon
When I first heard about that contest, I knew - I have to take part as I had never seen a contest with more intriguing theme - literature. Books are so important for me and there are so many of them... the theme just let so much freedom and for long I have wanted to make some great stories written by fantastic authors into my manip and now there was more than a reason. The first problem I got was that there are so many stunning books and I had to chose one. The final decision was Roger Zelanzy's Amber's serie. It is a stunning five book serie, story filled with fantasy, adventure, intrigue and nine prince and three princesses, fight for power, magic and colorful characters.
In all of those stunning scenese, adventures, I chose to create Tir-Na Nog'th - it is a ghost city, existing only in moonlight, mirror of real Amber. In there, the mirror of real Pattern ( a place of great magic and when you manage to walk on pattern and make it into the middle - you can control power more greater than imagines) exist.. and as those who have been there - there are ghost, visions - from past and from future. But at the end - all things heard there and saw.. there can be never sure what is what. Time flows very differently there.
First scene I had mind with Tir-Na Nog'th was a Random (one of the princes, my favorite in some way has he was most calm and most sensible of them) sitting on the throne on the ghost tower, with his granddaughter Dara beside her and Corwin (main prince) coming to visit the city and seeing them. Then I decided that I would like more to great the city itself too. That's why I decided to "built" the whole castle on the slopes of Kolvir. And I still wanted to all Dara even if on the books, she was far from a character I would like but there is something on her... the magic.. the unknown, something chaotic, innocent but still very treacherous and sneaky. (Who have read know)
So this is my vision of Tir-Na Nog'th and Dara and her tempting look to ask to follow her into the stairs what would take the city but the sky like this, when moon is going to hide every minute behind the clouds, it is almost like suicide as when the moonlight is gone, the city won't be too and the living one there, is going to fall...
I just checked the first saving of this work and it is more than a month ago :S this one took really uncountable hours. I started with blank black background and one by one start building things. I remember many nights when my dad came and asked what I am doing and I told like from one - creating infrastructure - like bridges
and then giving water for waterfall and those things
I remember many moments when I felt - I chose too big cake this time. I am not able to do it. Then I just stopped and next day, started over again. And I did this - I draw the hair. I am quite happy. Like many things in manips.. many times I try and not succeed and then on one moment I just do it and I can.
I just hope you like it and you can understand the magic of this work and the importance - for me, it has been the way to not deal with the pain inside me. I am never good when I have to deal with people's leaving, this time eternally. Working, and drowning myself into art has been my way to cope with things for seven months now.
But with this, I do not only want to be sad. I want to dedicate this for wonderful artist here who have been get year older lately. Sorry that I did not made something for you all personally but if a work takes more than 24 hours (this one defenetly took much more) I just have limited hours to spend.
Happy Birthday to you all
